The LGBTQ+ Women’s Health Programs Team enage with our communtities to develop the skills, knowledge and capacity of LGBTQ+ women and their communities to make informed choices about their sexual health and wellbeing. Ok, so what’s the role?

The Project Officer will play a pivotal role in the coordination and implementation of ACON’s health promotion project, Word on the Sheets, which aims to improve health outcomes for LGBTQ+ women across Australia. This position is responsible for coordinating day-to-day project activities, liaising with stakeholders, ensuring timely delivery of project objectives, and maintaining effective communication across teams. You will:

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including timelines, deliverables, and resource allocations while identifying and mitigating risks and ensuring tasks and milestones align with the project goals.
  • Collaborate with project staff, key stakeholders and community to design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive online hub providing sexual and reproductive health information for LGBTQ+ women.
  • Develop and maintain relationships, and conduct community consultations to ensure the provision of culturally tailored information to LGBTQ+ community members, addressing issues such as sexual and gender identity, coming out, relationships, social connection, sexual health, HIV, cervical screening, and reproductive health with a focus on the specific needs of subgroups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, trans and gender diverse people, and those from rural and remote areas.

Program Coordinator – Safety, Inclusion, and Justice

ACON’s Community Health Programs team is looking for a self-starting, innovative and experienced Program Coordinator to oversee and deliver safety, inclusion, and justice programs.

What’s the Safety, Inclusion, and Justice Program you say?

This program aims to increase understanding, visibility, and inclusion of sexually and gender diverse communities of Greater Western Sydney, Southeast Sydney and Northern Sydney, and initiatives that address violence and discrimination experienced by people of diverse sexualities and/or genders in NSW (LGBTQ+ people).

This program includes the Welcome Here Project, along with diverse and creative initiatives that improve safety and inclusion (workshops, resources, training, and community event coordination), as well as extensive stakeholder and community engagement.

This program also includes advocacy and representation to increase awareness and reduce the incidence of community violence including contributing to ACON’s justice projects.

The  Program Coordinator manages and supports the safety and inclusion program staff, to deliver a range of innovative and dynamic projects and initiatives. In this role you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the development, implementation, distribution, monitoring and evaluation of ACON’s safety and inclusion activity plan in Greater Western Sydney.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders, including building and maintaining partnerships with community organisations, groups, networks, leaders, health and social services providers.
  • Coordinate forums, workshops and presentations that enhance LGBTQ+ safety and inclusion issues and promote ACON’s programs.
  • Contribute to ACON’s advocacy and representation to increase awareness and reduce the incidence of community violence including contributing to ACONs justice projects.

About Us:

The first of its kind in Australia, Kaleido Health is a specialised LGBTQ+ health service that will deliver inclusive, person-centred, integrated health care specifically for sexuality and gender diverse people in NSW across a range of health services.

Opening in early 2025 and accessible statewide via telehealth, Kaleido will provide GP-led primary care services alongside specialist services, including mental health, sexual health, gender affirming healthcare, drug health, cancer screening and support, and other services for sexuality and gender diverse people.

The centre will include GPs, mental health professionals, nurses, peer workers, social workers, and a range of in-reach specialists and allied health practitioners, allowing for multidisciplinary care in a community-driven service and space.

Kaleido Health has been established by ACON, NSW’s leading organisation specialising in community health, inclusion and HIV responses for people of diverse sexualities and genders, with support from the NSW Government through the NSW Ministry of Health and Sydney Local Health District. The service has also been developed in collaboration with Central Eastern Sydney PHN, St Vincent’s Hospital Network Sydney and other key partners.

Kaleido Health will be registered with AGPAL to complete accreditation within 12 months of opening under RACGP Standards 5th edition.

You’ll work in collaboration with your team and a number of stakeholders to improve the health and wellbeing of trans adults of all genders and communities in NSW and across Australia, focusing on a number of areas that include:

  • Contributing to and promoting clear, easy and understood pathways for accessing care, information and support.
  • Facilitating and enabling opportunities for enhanced trans community peer support, connection, gender euphoria and strength.
  • Promoting affordable and available gender-affirming health care.
  • Contributing to and promoting a trans-affirming, gender affirming and knowledgeable health sector.

Who are we looking for?

  • Someone with an understanding of factors impacting the health and wellbeing of trans communities, especially transfeminine communities and a commitment to engaging these communities in NSW.
  • A person who knows the gender affirming, general health, support and information needs of trans and gender diverse communities in Australia and a commitment to engaging these communities in NSW.
  • Someone with experience in supporting health promotion projects/events and group facilitation especially in community health, education and support settings.
  • A person with highly developed oral, organisational, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience in community engagement and/or outreach.

Community Health Promotion Officer – Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence

We are on the lookout for someone to join the Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence team in the Health Equity and Harm Reduction Division. This role will support the implementation of ACON’s LGBTQ+ Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence (SDFV) Program for sexuality and gender diverse communities aimed at preventing and reducing the impact of SDFV experienced by LGBTQ+ people in NSW.

Ok, so what’s the role?

The Community Health Promotion Officer – Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence is essentially an all-rounder who supports the multiple differing and exciting programs we offer. You will:

  • Assist in the coordination, implementation, promotion and evaluation processes of ACON’s SDFV campaigns, programs, research, and resources.
  • Contribute to the development of professional documents, briefings, and reports for a range of stakeholders including government bodies and community.
  • Regularly update and maintain ACON’s Say It Out Loud website.
  • Represent ACON at NSW SDFV committees, roundtables, inter-agencies and other stakeholder meetings.
  • Give presentations to a range of agencies on diversity, discrimination, and LGBTQ+ sexual, domestic, and family violence.
  • Maintain appropriate and timely statistics, administrative records, and written reports.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to an ongoing process of supervision, unit meetings, team meetings, general staff meetings, quality improvement and professional development strategies.

We provide a flexible and supportive working environment. You’ll be a part of the Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence team, in the Health Equity, Harm Reduction Division. A highly focused and caring team who are responsible for health promotion and awareness raising about LGBTQ+ people experiencing sexual, domestic and family violence in NSW.

What’s the remuneration and working details?

Salary:           $80,444.00 – $84,357.00 (Gross per-annum, PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading) – commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience.

Location:      ACON’s Gadigal / Sydney Office.

Hours:           Full-Time (70 hours per fortnight).

We offer flexible working arrangements and a generous array of entitlements often above the National Employment Standards (NES) including:

  • Salary Packaging up to $35,000 gross up value (i.e., currently up to $15,900 Expenses + $2,650 Meals, tax free).
  • Generous pro-rata leave entitlements – including up to an extra week of paid leave for full time employees to be taken during our Christmas and New Year’s shutdown period.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – access to a comprehensive counselling service free to employees.
